DUOLINGO EXAM

Duolingo is a pattern of the online language learning system languages included(English, Deutsche, Espanol, Francis, Hindi, Magyar, Bahasa Indonesia, Italiano, Portuguese, for more languages click here.

It uses a mixture of techniques to assist a learner to expand his or her vocabulary and grammatical knowledge in various categories, such as nouns, adjectives, tenses, etc

For some languages, there are also exercises in speaking — English is one — but not all languages appear to have speaking exercises. The version of Duolingo available for computers and as well as available in play store for mobile users. The computer version is better than the mobile version.

I would tell Duolingo is a useful assistant to learning other languages. Now instead of IELTS & TOEFL many universities in the countries like United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, the USA & accepted by hundreds of institutions worldwide. As of now, students who like to study abroad can go for the Duolingo exam. It is a bit cheaper than IELTS & TOEFL. The cost for the Duolingo exam is 49$ which means in Indian currency 3695₹.

WHY DUOLINGO ?

DUOLINGO EXAM| DUOLINGO EXPLAINED

Duolingo is a great tool that gives a solid grammar foundation and an introductory vocabulary of 2000 words. Having that, you can communicate at the basic level and you have many more options for applying other language-learning techniques.

I’d say Duolingo is a great tool. It takes some of the drudgeries(which means hard work) away. This focus on repetition (Explicitly with Cards) does pound the vocabulary in your brain. The fact that you type some of your answers probably strengthens the visual & verbal training with your memory. However, it’s just a tool to help you.

But, as far as learning apps go, its the most well rounded and best presented. I would recommend improving it with conversation practice with language partners in Duolingo where you can have conversations with others available in your Duolingo Facebook friends.

It gets a bit monotonous. It gives me the impression that translating an English sentence into another language. It becomes anticipated and monotonous. But this is just my personal view on my experience with the Duolingo app.

After completing Duolingo tree your proficiency in the foreign language will be somewhat between A1 and A2 on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages scale (probably, closer to A2). It is far from fluency but amazingly effective for the start.

105-110- Band 6.5

  •  can interact with proficient speakers fairly easily.

A person who gets 115-130(which means in IELTS – Band 7-7.5)

A person who gets 135-150& 160 (which means IELTS Band 8-8.5 & 9)

PROS'S & CON'S OF DUOLINGO

PRO’s & CON’s of DUOLINGO

Pros:

  • It’s free without any ads disturbance
  • Simple to use with a pretty frank interface & it allows you to publish your results on Facebook.and challenges you to be a better version of yourself every day until you beat your scores and your friends’ scores too.
  •  It’s fun to use Duolingo. You get points or experience-points(XPS) for each answer and if you answer all the questions without any error, you get a lingot!
  • Doesn’t take much time to do every day.
  • If your answer is wrong, it gives the right answers, and also there is a comment section in which you can discuss the solution with other people.
  • Better that you no need to go to any test center to take the exam.

Cons:

  • Works only with an internet connection
  • It will get complicated when your level increases. for beginners it would be good and easy
  • The sentences which are spoken are not in a representative way of native people speaking a particular language.
  • The machine can’t always provide you with a great listening activity.
  • Lacks explanations for some things, requiring you to look up things yourself if you want to know about them.

At some point, you’re going to have to know how to converse with native speakers.

To summarize, I would say that Duolingo is valuable and makes the process much easier, but using it exclusively will not teach you the language sufficiently. You absolutely must complement Duolingo with other means of learning, especially for speaking.

I would say that Duolingo has been the major source of learning languages, it will have been a significant contributor to that, Indeed, relying on Duolingo alone would be an unwise approach, unless you truly had no other opportunities. But just as in the course in the other direction, you’ll be starting with the easy stuff and working your way up.
